Scholarship for Latino Students

A new scholarship program for Latino students has been established by a business group called LINC or Latino Initiatives for the Next Century.

The program is available to students all over the US and will provide 500 scholarships each year to Hispanic students who want to obtain a four-year college degree or a trade school degree.

To be eligible for this four-year scholarship, a student must be a first generation Latino.

Other considerations are academic achievement, financial need, community service, letters of recommendation and the applicant's understanding of the issues confronting the Latino community.

In addition he or she must meet the following criteria:
  • All applicants must be graduates of a high school or have obtained their GED.
  • All applicants must have a minimum high school Grade Point Average (GPA) of 2.5.
  • All applicants must be enrolled as first semester freshman in a college or trade school within the United States.
  • All applicants must be registered (or plan to be registered) as full-time students in the 2001 Fall Semester and Spring Semester 2002.

All scholarship recipients must adhere to the following guidelines and requirements in order to maintain eligibility:
  • All scholarship recipients are encouraged to enroll in an academic support program.
  • Scholarship recipients must maintain at least a 2.5 GPA (4.0 scale) each semester in order to maintain eligibility.
  • Scholarship recipients are required to provide LINC with both a copy of their official transcripts and a personal report on their progress in school at the end of each semester (after receipt of these materials, eligibility will be determined, if all requirements are met, checks will then be disbursed).
  • Applicants must participate in LINC support programs.

Students in this program will take part in an on-going support program which includes tutoring, leadership training, time management seminars, counseling, corporate internship programs and job placement assistance.
